Default What a bunch of Bozos!

Human nature is that accomplishments are to be rewarded and recognized. Get off your high horse you malcontents!

Using your logic, lets get rid of:

1. Medals in the Military: Who cares that you saved a village of 40 children with a bullet in your leg! You know you did it so that should be enough!!

2. Degrees in school: No we don't think your 7 years of schooling in brain surgery should be noted in any way. I am sure Mr. Jones will be quite comfortable with "Frank" performing his brain sugery today.

3. Any form of trophys: Hey there little Jimmy! Great work on winning the national title!! What? Oh no, you don't get anything to signify your accomplishment. I just said "great work" isn't that enough????

MORONS MORONS MORONS!!!!!

OP...congrats and hopefully some sort of recognition can be implemented...maybe there is somewhere you can better post the idea!

Actually, most of the developers of GW came from Blizzard, so that's all good.

Secondly, I was in no way casting aspersions on Diablo. That was my first online experience and I ran a Diablo guild until D2 came out and still have about 20 people from our glory days that still frequent our forum. We even meet once a month to play D2: LoD.

As a school teacher, I can't tell you how true this is in life. We homogenize children and erase competition from their lives. After all, we wouldn't want Little Johnny or Little Jilly t feel bad, would we? Everyone is given a "certificate of participation" and no one "wins" games any more.

Then, the poor kids get out in the real world...the world of job competition and Donald Trumps and the dog-eat-dog reality that is business and industry. They have NO idea how to deal with things, how to sell themselves, how to -compete-.

No, no I'm not saying that that's what GW is all about so no jumping up and down. However, what I -am- saying is this: Let people celebrate their accomplishments. We all, even you naysayers, like to be rewarded in a visual fashion for what we've done. It isn't NECESSARY because, if we are well-rounded individuals, we are intrinsically rewarded. But it is darned nice to have a tangible, visible reward sometimes too.

So what if people want a little "something" for accomplishing a goal? As stated earlier, if it doesn't effect game balance, who gives a rip? And, as further stated, if it was made "toggle-able", that would be a nice option.

Those of you who want us all to march like identical little soldiers could just walk by the "glowers" and shake your 'toon heads and feel superior that YOU didn't fall prey to the nastiness of individuality.

Customizing and individualizing armor/weapons is a nice feature. Perhaps reaching a "goal" (such as 1,000,000 or 10,000,000,000,000 XP) with a toggle on/off feature, would further enhance one's ability to customize/individualize their characters.

the only problem I have with it...is that I can already only stomach a few minutes at a time in town(which takes away from the social aspect of this game for me) because I can't stand to see people making fart jokes....feeling the need to strip their character of all clothing and dancing....talking about how this person is a noob or that person is a noob and certainly not worth the effort of helping(apparently pointing out ones shortcomings is popular online, atleast more so than offering help or for god's sake answering a question)....I really don't need another thing for idiot gamers to brag about in towns/outposts....

Looking different is great(im not a communist)....I enjoy dying my character different colors just as much as anyone else does....Giving idiot gamers another thing to be vain about is unnecessary.

I really like his idea and I feel that some of you are getting bent out of shape about it. I think that an aurora glow for your profession type should be given to you when you reach 1 or 2 million experience, have completed all the missions along with all the bonuses, and have completed ALL the quests. Seriously, it takes time to get all that experience and do all those quests that you didn't even bother to do. There are so many of them that aren't even in outposts so it would be an adventure for the PvE people. Some bonuses I haven't done, but I plan on doing them all anyways. Anet should definetly look at this idea. I think you should glow OUT OF TOWN and not in town. There should be a way to turn it off if you want.

Manheim seems like a nice guy that felt like sharing something that is kinda cool.

I just do not Get It when people have to be so snotty toward others. When I read his post I saw a person that was sharing something with others...not bragging about it. Some people in order to feel good about themselves they have to knock down others in order to feed thier own egos.

Heh, well I think its someones perrogative if they choose not to buy into getting the rewards...so an on/off feature would be good for an aura. But this is a multiplayer game and for alot of people rewards are a key ingredient. There are a few visual rewards, but most of them have been made trivial. I would wager most level 20 peeps would not be too happy if all thier gear looked exactly like the gear they started out with.

So is dye, different armour, customisable looks, etc. Is it unnecessary? Yes. Does it detract from anything? No.

I don't feel the urge to be snotty to other people, but I know that there are people who don't hesitate when they get the chance. I have seen some of that in this forum. It boggles the mind.. how people just don't hesitate to attack another person. It is possible to post your thoughts and not be an #ss, isnt it?

as I've said before...and WILL NOT say again...there is a difference between making your character look the way you want and being ostentatious...

um so this divine aura thing, is that why some characters names are dark blue and some light blue? or is that to do with this assention thing?

ok, back on track....you do realise, people that the dope-on-a-rope people that are standing in town, in their undies, dancing to tunes only their characters can hear, the guys calling eachother noobs and braggin are *usualy* young adolecents?
most of them are likely to be males playing girl characters so that they can zoom in and watch their breasts bounce when they use a bow? (yes, they ALL bounce, no mater what class, to varying degrees, and in any armour lol)

sure, many of them may also be afk or eating ect and leave their chars dancing, or just like to see them dance.

this 1kk aura thingy...i think its more about you knowing you did it, and the devs lettin you know that THEY know you did it and giving you a visual pat on the back. what about wepons glow? i never realy liked it much in NwN, mainly cause i learned that people know what my wepons could do or even the exact wepon i was using, simply cause they knew ALL about the items in the game.
could we not have a special item or two, you hit the max exp thing and you go to a temple or a place and talk to a person and they can say,
'because of your acchevements, <name here>, we are honoured to grant your these artifacts.' (hands over 2 or 3 GlowStones.)
you then just apply them to ether armour wepon or sheild/artifact and it will glow after that, the same way that we apply dyes.

sure, people could pass them to new char or players, but then you dont feel the same pride that you slogged though so many hours ect to get them properly.

<edit> Ostentatious.....well, depends on your definiton. is it the same as parading about in expensive designer clothes in a poor area, or wearing tones of gold jewelry and diamonds in the same place? like wearing furs and eating meat in a place you *know* is upset by those types of actions?
ostentatious to me, is simply rubbing peoples noses in it.
like wearing the most expensive armour in a place where they have no hope of getting it, or like in another game, when they introduced 4th level magic auras and the highest and richest simply went out and *bought* the upgrade items, then went about standing in towns using those spells to show off.
now, to that aura thing in that game, there was a fix for that. you simply re-named the third lvl aura the same as the 4th lvl, and vice versa. the game then displayed you doing the same aura yourself, but no-one else saw it heheh.

if you realy want this aura thing, make it so that not only *you* but anyone else can press the <no aura> button and not see your aura. that way, if they dont see it, who does it hurt?

oh, and yeah *pats on the back and choc chip cookies* to everyone that has maxed thier exp

It's right there in your Hero screen...you KNOW you did it because you can SEE IT...you don't need an auro to tell you. You need an aura to tell everyone else.

the difference in the light blue and dark blue names in town have nothing to do with divine aura...that just means they are in a party. Divine aura is the sparkly stuff that happens when one does emotes.

Two points here:

Those who feel it humorous or worth their while to ridicule other players while in town have other issues to deal with outside the game. Ignore them as much as you can, or switch to a different district to escape them for a while. Moreover, pity them. They're probably venting pent-up frustrations in-game where doing so in real life would get them into real trouble. (Truth be told, I'd rather have a kid call me a noob and cuss me out in-game than hearing about a school shooting on the news. Wouldn't you?) If it helps them find a sense of significance, however pointless and fleeting, let it be.

Secondly, since you've admitted enjoying dying your armor and weapons just for fun, why begrudge other methods of customization?

Thinking of that, I came to the conclusion you could get different types of Aura's possibly basing them on the god you chose to pledge yourself to. Grenth being mist, Bathazar being fire, Dwayna being a divine light, Lyssa probably being transparent and the tree god (which I can't remember the name of) having something like plants grow whereever you tred and slowly wither away into nothingness when you step away while you yourself look like you've got plants growing out of you. These could be other options to the generic glow.

These could possibly show either while you have the favour of the gods or just be togglable. The train of thought then went on to say you'd get certain bonuses to your stats from the gods but then I realised it'd probably make things horribly unbalanced. Perhaps the moral instead of increating hp and energy would increase something else slightly when you have this aura and depending on the god? *shrugs and continues letting his mind tick away on things that sound cool and most likely will never be implemented*

1) regardless of their reasons I don't want to hear/see/listen to them do it

2) I agree with aesthetic appearance changes...yes. Do I agree with a bright glowing aura so that EVERYONE knows you are UBER leet...being dyed black is you being dyed black...have a giant glowing aura around you because you waste more time playing than Joe Dick did...is ostentatious....I have a severe disdain for pretentious people. You ONLY want the glow so other people know you've got 1mil experience...there is NO other reason for it. Aesthetically this glow would make your character look like crap.

could make your guild logo (be it on cape or not if you can get that dealt with ^^ ) glow the shade of your gods aura sekkira

oh, and its Melandru, like the cats

i like the idea of Deity based Auras, actually. maybe you would have to do some heaping big string of quests for that god though, to get *that* aura

<edit> being dyed black does NOT mean your just dyed black...it means you have TONES of cash to be able to afford the black dye, which also means your high enough to get the cash in the first place. other shades, yeah, maybe, but not the black
(though, if you were realy lucky, and got some black dye drops and SAVED them up for you BEST armour, then it would be just dyed black)

Congrats . Just hit one million myself.

I see no reason to not give an aura. PvP has the /rank to 'show off' their skills. Why not give a /exp to the PvE players?

What do you need like 2000 fame to get the rank 9 emote? If I won 2000 matches, I would most certainly want people to recognize that I know what I'm doing. When you see people shouting "Experience nuker here lfg" how can you truly tell? Lot easier in PvP to form a group of experienced players by their rank.

Again, congrats. Have fun reaching 2 million .

I agree people in towns can be annoying, but I more equate that to boredom.

I think one could argue that using a dye that is rare/expensive is a sort of a visual reward, or status symbol, ect.
